Goals

After a brief reminder on the electrochemical basis and on the metallurgical aspects of corrosion processes, the curse will focus on the techniques employed for the investigation and measurement of corrosion phenomena. The second part of the course will relate to various techniques of surface treatments.

I. Introduction

  • Basic concepts reminder (2h);
  • electrochemical impedance applied to corrosion studies (6h);
  • in situ measurements and corrosion monitoring (4h)

II. Basic aspects of surface treatment

  • Vacuum thermal evaporation
  • Cathodic pulverization
  • Ion implantation and ion-beam assisted deposition of materials
  • Chemical vapor deposition
  • Surface treatment by beams of high energy
  • Carburation and nitriding
