    ECTS

    ECTS 2.5

Goal(s)

  • Give basic theoretical knowledge in fluid mechanics, and some know-how using approximate tools (hydraulics, turbulent transfer)
  • Apply that knowledge and know-how to circuits for nuclear plants, or other systems for energy production
Contact Yves DELANNOY

Content(s)

  1. Physics of fluids, flow classification
  2. One-D balance equations for mass, momentum, energy
  3. Head loss, Pipe flow
  4. Pumps and turbines, hydraulic networks
  5. Local differential equations, Simple shear flows
  6. Turbulence, mixing length model, turbulent boundary layer

Prerequisites
  • Mechanics (fundamental principles, stress tensor)
  • Vector analysis (gradient, divergence, curl)
  • partial differential equations
