To complete and to give an experimental overview of materials science courses of the structural materials option. Students will perform thermomechanical treatments, analyse microstructures and build behaviour laws on metals, polymers and ceramics.
36 hours of lab work sessions on the following topics (choice possibility)
Creep study on zircalloy, a material for nuclear industry.
Behaviour laws from tensile tests.
Microstructural and grain size influence on mechanical properties of steels.
Brittle and ductile fracture on Cotterel and Charpy V test samples : fracture work and fracture mechanisms (SEM). *Relations between polymers mechanical properties and their chemical structure. *Composites : Composite forming by impregnation of fibers and study of its rheological behaviour.
