Objectives

The objective of the training program is to acquire a strongly specialized expertise in the design and experimentation of last generation micro and nanoelectronics, the most up-to-date embedded chips or optoelectronic circuits and systems. A complementary objective is to address specification, design and validation of complex system-on-chip architecture solutions for a wide range of applications. Students are trained in applied research and development of integrated circuits in analog, digital design, system-on-chip, optoelectronics, microwaves, RF.

Specificities

Phelma's Integrated Electronic Systems Specialization program is compatible with two research orientated master's degrees: The Optics and Radiofrequency Master and the Micro Nano Electronics Master. Students wishing to register for one of those two masters can contact the master secretariat at master.or@phelma.grenoble-inp.fr (Optics and Radiofrequency) or sarah.bennour@ujf-grenoble.fr (Micro and Nanotechnologies).

With the support of the IRT Nanoelec, which benefits from the French national program "programme d'Investissements d'Avenir, IRT Nanoelec" ANR-10-AIRT-05.

Entry requirements

To be admitted into Year 1 (at two years of post-secondary study), students must have completed two years of preparatory courses (science-track or Institute of Technology common preparatory program) or have earned an undergraduate degree from a university (in France, mainly DUT or L2).

The two year specialization program (Years 2 and 3) is aimed primarily at students from Grenoble INP but also welcomes international exchange students attending Grenoble INP. Lectures can be taught in English upon request.

Program

The first year

2 tracks are available within the 1st year and lead to a Bachelor of Engineering science.

The second year

The third year

Semester 9 can be completed in one of two cross-disciplinary programs that concern all majors:
> IPEM Industrial Processes & Environmental Management
> MANINTEC Management, Innovation, Technologies

Semester 10 - Master thesis (30 ECTS)

The last semester of Grenoble INP-Phelma's engineering program is dedicated to the End of Studies Project (Projet de Fin d'Etudes, PFE). This occurs from February to June, either overseas or in France, in a research laboratory or in industry. This allows students to use the methods and knowledge they have acquired in a professional environment. They will experience engineering working methods, learn how to manage a project and develop their autonomy and initiative. The End of Studies Project also develops their sense of responsibility by submitting them to a demand for results within a pre-determined time frame. The student engineer is required to produce a report and take a viva on their project. This project accounts for 30 credits.

Board of examiners

Each semester is worth 30 ECTS credits, spread out over the different courses completed. Students must obtain a grade of at least 10/20 in each course to obtain the credits.

International

  • Language of instruction French / English (lectures can be taught in English upon request).
  • Internship abroad Yes
  • Erasmus areas Electronics and telecommunications engineering

International exchange

Students in this major benefit from many agreements between Grenoble Institute of Technology and partners around the globe in the form of exchange programs, dual-degree programs, internships, and more.
