Describe the advantage and drawbacks of the different materials used for reactors components of RNR and PWR

Presentation of the major classes of reactors and the different requirements on materials

The different structural materials currently used in the primary circuit of nuclear reactors will be described both in terms of their nature and microstructures and of their properties and properties evolution

  • Steels: classification and denominations of steels, stainless steels, mechanical properties (corrosion resistance will be addressed in the course on corrosion)
  • Aluminum and nickel-based alloys
  • Zirconium alloys
  • Graphite
  • Joining methods for alloys
