Goal(s)

To understand the specificity of the irradiation of living beings by ionizing radiations. From the underlying physical principles to their biological consequences.
Topics :

  • Specificity of the interactions between ionizing particles and the living matter : from physical interaction to biological responses
  • Elements of radiobiology
  • Initial physical events : water radiolysis, free radical formation, chemical and biological steps, DNA damages
  • Dosimetry concepts : from absorbed dose to dose equivalent. Damages to living organisms. Microscopic aspects of energy deposition.
