Goal(s)

To understand the physical phenomena which appear in semiconductor materials and are used in microelectronic devices or sensors.

Content(s)

• Energy bands and charge carriers in semiconductors (crystal lattices, energy bands, effective mass concept, electrons and holes)
• Semiconductor properties at equilibrium (intrinsic and extrinsic semiconductors, carrier concentrations, evolution with temperature)
• Introduction to semiconductor devices (carrier transport, conductivity and mobility, diffusion, example PN junction)



Prerequisites
  • Basics in physics : Physics course PET-PMP S5
  • Differential equations

Session 1 if confinement: Continuous Assessment + written final exam (30mn MCQ + 1h written exam)

Session 2 if confinement : written exam 1h30(ZOOM and camera requested)
