Goal(s)

The aim of this course is to introduce the research field of spoken communication. It provides students with the bases of the field. It also presents the main scientific breakthroughs in the associated research fields.

Content(s)

This introduction to the study of spoken communication provides notions on the theoretical models of speech production and perception, on the units of language, on the sound structures of the languages, on the emergence and evolution of language and on its development in infants and children. Multisensory issues are also tackled (audiovisual speech, communicative gestures). Several neurolinguistic theories of speech are finally presented.
