Summary

The Biomedical Engineering degree prepares engineers for different application fields of biomedical instrumentation with interdisciplinary competences, (engineering sciences and biology) both theoretical and practical.

Two options are possible:

Medical imaging and nanomedicine

Students taking this option target a career in the development and therapeutical application of different imaging modalities covering structural and functional imaging at different scales. Image analysis and processing as well as the development of novel molecular markers emerging from nanomedicine are also possible career domains.

A specialisation in Structural Biology is offered via the Master Nanomedicine and Structural Biology to enter the field of innovative drug design based on a molecular "structure-function" approach.

Nanobiology and medical devices

This option prepares for a career in the design, development and application of medical devices, like "point of care", miniaturised devices (lab-on-chip), implantable devices or those targeting the brain-computer interface. The development of nanoparticles for medical applications, tissue engineering and the design of active biomaterials for diagnostic or therapeutical applications are all at the heart of nowadays evolution towards a personalized medicine.

By taking additional courses for 6 ECTS, the two options allow to obtain a double degree combining the Engineer diploma with a Master's diploma in Sciences.

Objectives

The degree in Biomedical engineering is built on a general background in physics and biology coupled with engineering sciences allowing a professional career at the interface between physics and biomedical applications.
In parallel, a complementary curriculum (choice semester Manintec or double degree with the Institut d'administration des Entreprises) paves the path for a career in consulting, marketing and sales.
