The urban area of Grenoble accommodates large international research institutions such as the ESRF (European Synchrotron Radiation Facility), the neutron reactor of the Institut Laue Langevin, the most intense one in the world, and more than 200 laboratories from universities, large national and international research facilities (CNRS, CEA, INRIA, INSERM) and industrial groups.

Phelma makes up the academic part of the Minatec innovation cluster that encompasses our engineers training, many applied research laboratories as well as industrial valorisation and innovation activities on a same site.
