Goal(s)

This course presents the physics of solids and physics of semiconductors which are necessary to understand the basic operation of semiconductor devices.

  • 1. Semiconductor crystallography, energy bands, Fermi-Dirac distribution, intrinsic and extrinsic semiconductors.
  • 2. Semiconductors at equilibrium (mass action law, electroneutrality, Fermi level,…).
  • 3. Transport (diffusion, conduction, mobility, conservation equation,…).
  • 4. Semiconductors out of equilibrium (carriers injection, depletion regions,…).
  • 5. Schottky contact.


Prerequisites

Teaching methods : 10h Theoretical classes (T), 10h problems solved in classes
Language : Classes and assessment in English, Bibliography In English.
