Goals

The different elements of an optical communication system over optical fiber are presented and detailed. The goal of this course is to give the required skills to understand and to conceive an optical system dedicated to high speed communication.

Different aspects are presented :

  • networks : topology, security, routing and multiplexing
  • components in high speed optical networks : optical fibre, lasers and sensors, components for routing.
  • regeneration technics : amplifier, re-shaping and re-timing systems


Prerequisites
  • electromagnetic wave
  • semi-conductors

Tests

evaluation through a 2H final exam
