Content(s)
MOLECULES OF LIFE :
- Structure and function of proteins, case studies of different proteins illustrate their diverse functions
- Structure, organization and function of nucleic acids (DNA and RNA); in particular genome organization and gene regulation will be discussed; RNA molecule functions will be highlighted
- Enzyme catalysis, the Michaelis and Menten model for enzyme catalysis, structural and functional analysis of a protease
- Selected topics of interest chosen with the students: examples are fluorescent proteins, the molecular biology of vision, the human genome....
Practicals : DNA chips
- Phase 1 : Surface functionalisation of a glass slide and covalent grafting of DNA probes
- Phase 2 and 3 : Hybridation with fluorescent target DNA and detection/quantification of fluorescence
Equipment used: Liquid spotting robot and fluorescence scanner
