Goal(s)

These lectures are intended for all first-year engineering students at Phelma. One of their goals is to provide a broad overview of engineering, development, and research activities carried out by industries in the fields covered by the school's academic tracks. They aim to help students choose their specialization and build their professional career plan. These presentations also illustrate how the engineering profession, in general, and the school’s industrial partners, in particular, contribute through their work to tackling today’s major technological and societal challenges. In addition to the industrial presentations, three lectures are dedicated to specific themes: (a) Innovation and Entrepreneurship, (b) Research and Doctorate, and (c) Challenges of the Ecological and Social Transition.

For the lectures presented by the school’s industrial partners:
• Technological and societal challenges addressed by your organization

• Presentation of the Business Units involved in these activities
• Emerging careers and future professional opportunities
• Examples of career paths within your organization
• Interactive discussions with students

For the “Innovation and Entrepreneurship” lecture:
• Student entrepreneurship: profiles, types of innovation, funding options
• Introduction to student innovation and entrepreneurship hubs (e.g., Pépite oZer)
• Concepts of intellectual property
• “Boîte à Idées” (Idea Box) initiative

For the “Research and Doctorate” lecture:
• The role of research and development in addressing today’s industrial challenges
• The value of a doctorate and the specific skill sets of PhD holders
• The diversity of research and development topics
• Guidance on choosing a research lab and thesis topic
• Roundtable discussion: career paths and opportunities for PhD candidates

For the “Ecological and Social Transition Challenges” lecture:
• Presented by the organization TWM
