Goal(s)
This course is about materials used to construct medical implants and other devices used to repair, replace or regenerate tissues and organs. This course provides a broad perspective on biomaterials engineering and processing, classes of material used and applications of materials in medicine, biology, and biotechnology.
This course is based on a combination of lectures and student presentations.
Content(s)
The course comprises 5 parts :
(I) Introduction to biomaterial engineering and applications
(II) Concepts of biocompatibility
(III) Biomaterial processing, characterization and testing
(IV) Some concepts on R&D
(V) Biomaterials for orthopaedic applications and tissue engineering.
Prerequisites
Basic knowledge in cell biology and in physics of materials
Semester 9 - The exam is given in english only
