Goals

Students will be encouraged to hone their communication skills through project work carried out in a small group learning environment conducive to genuine student interactions This approach will complement that of semester1 and our aim will be:

  • to further improve oral and written communication through regular group work to prepare the students for their future professional responsibilities.
  • to enhance communication skills to convince others of the value of one's process or project
  • To develop note taking strategies and to write efficient summaries based on audio or written documents
  • to promote awareness of a common scientific and technical culture
  • to work as a team on joint projects and to understand the value of sharing a joint technical and scientific background in a multicultural context
  • to stimulate creativity,individual input and interpersonal skills
  • to master professional presentation tools and to discuss findings with clarity and efficiency
  • to answer general or technical questions constructively, taking into account the specificity of once's audience
  • to monitor one's progress and develop personal improvement strategies for B2 level and beyond

Content

Aspects covered in class will include:

  • note-taking and writing skills practice based on listening comprehension tasks
  • professional, poster-type presentation of an industrial process (origins, process, equipment, stakes and results, costs and statistics)
  • debating
  • presenting to convince in a competition for investment funds
  • abstract-writing practice


Prerequisites

Minimum requirement: A2 level

Tests

Semester 6 - The exam is given in english only 

100% Continuous assessment - oral and written evaluated tasks - regular attendance is essential.
Continuous assessment has been designed to be carried out either online or at Phelma (depending on the circumstances): 25% poster presentation; 15% debating; 25% group presentation ; 15% abstract writing; 20% personal involvement and attendance

NB. In keeping with CTI regulations, all Phelma students are to certify a minimum level of English (B2). Linguaskill General test sessions will be organised throughout the year for all Phelma 1A students. If B2 is not certified in 1A, students will be able to try again in 2A.
