Presentation of unit separation operations, the most common technologies, and their areas of application. Choosing the most suitable technology. Sizing of facilities. Yield calculation

LEVEL: Basic course in Process Engineering

Contact Pierre Antoine BONNEFONT, Raphael BOICHOT, Nadine COMMENGES-BERNOLE, Nicolas SERGENT, Lenka SVECOVA, Florence DRUART

Content(s)

A. Fluid/fluid staged separation processes

  • Number of equilibrium stages, transfer units
  • Estimation of yields and efficiencies
  • Method for sizing a staged material transfer process (number of stages, column height and cross-section)

Examples of applications
Washing column (with or without reaction): CO2 absorption
Recovery process: Liquid/liquid extraction
Purification or recovery process: Distillation

Implementation of separation columns (operating point, clogging)

B. Physicochemical liquid/solid separation processes

* Coagulation, flocculation
* Decantation
* Frontal and tangential filtration

Design aspects and areas of application

C. Humid air
