Providing students with a methodology for solving systemic problems, with a focus on energy and material ressources.

The course is divided into two main parts. First, a general overview of the concept of transition for engineers, with a systematic survey of the major challenges of the 21st century: energy overconsumption, resource scarcity, pollution, overpopulation, and global warming. This will be followed by an exhaustive study of existing technical solutions—particularly regarding energy resource management—along with their advantages and disadvantages. This section will conclude with a rational methodology for solving systemic problems.
The second part of the course will address, more specifically, the issue of material resource scarcity and the methodology for transitioning toward a resource-efficient economy. The focus will be on recycling, reuse, and the effective use of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) through concrete case studies related to the microelectronics and energy storage sectors.
