Electronic Instrumentation Course
All modern measurement systems are based on electronic components. This course focuses on discovering, analyzing, and characterizing the components of a low-frequency analog electronic measurement chain. The course follows the typical sequence of analog electronic components found in a measurement system: sensor, conditioner, amplifier, filter, and analog-to-digital converter.
Content
Overview of the main electronic sensors and detailed study of one of them.
Study of differential amplifier and instrumentation-based circuits.
Study and design of basic electronic filters.
Use of MOS switching transistors.
Prerequisites
Circuit analysis using Kirchhoff's laws in DC and AC.
Frequency analysis and Bode diagrams.
Knowledge of basic linear dipoles (resistance, capacitance, inductance).
Circuit analysis using the ideal operational amplifier model.
Reading an electronic component data sheet.
Operation of the MOS transistor in amplification.
This part of the course unit is assessed by:
- a written exam (ET1)
- a group presentation on a topic during the first tutorial session (presentation)
- a group homework assignment to be completed and handed in towards the end of the course (DM)
