Goal(s)
Develop the basic concepts in physical chemistry useful for controlling the microstructure of materials during various fabrication processes.

- basics of phase transformations : driving forces, nucleation, growth, various classes of solid state transformations
- solidification microstructures :
- metallic alloys : process parameters, solidification paths (kinetics), microstructures (cells, dendrites, eutectics, peritectics)
- crystallisation of polymers : Introduction on polymer synthesis, crystallite morphologies, crystallisation kinetics

Fundamentals of thermodynamics, crystallography
