Content(s)

This module aims to present the contribution of photonics to optical instrumentation for astronomy and planetology, which is called astrophotonics.

We will discuss the concepts of angular resolution limit, the reconstruction of images by aperture synthesis (long baseline interferometry) or the development of spectrometers with very high spectral resolution, using guided optics and integration of sensors directly into the optical chip.

For this we will introduce notions of guided optics, active modulation of the phase (thermo-optical, electro-optical effects).

Finally, the courses will be illustrated by concrete examples of ground or space-based instruments.
