Goal(s)

This course aims at giving an introduction to the field of Planar Ligthwave Integrated Circuits. It gives the fundamentals of dielectric waveguides, introduces elementary integrated functions and gives an overview of advanced devices and their realization technologies.

Content(s)

I. Waveguides: propagation of light in a waveguide, monomode and multimode waveguides, slab and channel wavegujides, Effective Index Method, Designing a Waveguide.
II. Elementary functions: Directional couplers, Y-junctions, Interferometers



Prerequisites

Notions of geometrical and wave optics. Knowledge of the mathematical formalism of waves (complex exponentials, Maxwell equations)
