Goal(s)
Present the basic concepts and tools of the mechanics of deformable media. The concepts of stress, strain or strain rate, and behavior laws are presented in such a way that they can be applied both in the case of solid mechanics (linear elasticity) and in the case of fluid mechanics (Newtonian fluids).

Part 1: Fundamentals of Continuum Mechanics
- Internal forces. Stress tensor.
- Equations of equilibrium.
- Strain and strain rate tensors.
- Linear behavior laws: elastic solids (Hooke's law) and Newtonian fluids.
Part 2: Application to solids
- Navier-Lamé equation. Solving various elastic problems.
- Plasticity criteria
Part 3: Application to fluids
- Navier-Stokes equation.
- Statics and kinematics. Dynamics of ideal fluids.
- Bernoulli's equation.
- Poiseuille flow.
- Laminar and turbulent flows.
- Pressure losses in pipes.
Prerequisites
Point mechanics, solid mechanics.
Test
DS: 80% of the final grade:
Continuous assessment: 20% of the final grade (no resits)
