Goal(s)

Experimental overview of materials science courses. Students will perform thermomechanical treatments, analyse microstructures and characterize the mechanical behavior of structural materials.

Content(s)

The program comprises the following lab works (8 sessions of 4h):

  • 1a - Steels and cast irons microstructures
  • 1b - Embrittlement of duplex stainless steel
  • 2a - Pure aluminium recrystallisation
  • 2b - Structural hardening of an aluminium alloy
  • 3 - Ductile fracture of aluminium (Cotterell test)
  • 4 - Creep of Zn
  • 5 - Sintering of ZnO ceramic
  • 6 - Thermal shock of ceramics


Prerequisites

General materials science courses of the syllabus of SIM.
French or english teaching during laboratory sessions, handouts written in english

Test

Only face-to-face examination:
Reports on each labs (CR) + Final defense prepared on one of the labs (PO)



N1=80%CR+20%PO
