Goal(s)

Basic Principles of digital modulations to transmit digital information over analog support.
Study of the performances for an additive white Gaussian noise.

  • Baseband digital Modulation & Carrier frequency digital modulation (Linear modulations (ASK, PSK, QAM), cyclostationnarity, average Power Spectral Density, ... Energy per bit, goal and principle of Differential encoding, Non-linear modulations (FSK, CP-FSK).
  • Optimal Coherent receiver for Additive White Gaussian Noise Channel (Correlator or Matched filter, Inter-Symbols Interference, Nyquist criterium, Band-limited transmission, Spectral Efficency, bit error rate performance versus Eb/N0 ratio, link with Information Theory achievable limits).


Prerequisites

Basic course on deterministic and Random signal processing

Session 1: written exam (2 hours), CC (practical reports)
