Goal(s)

This course introduces the quantum mechanical description of systems of identical particles using the second quantized formalism. The lecture objective is to provide the theoretical tools for the advanced condensed matter and quantum information M2 lectures.

1 Introduction: Symmetry properties of quantum states of identical particles, density operator, propagators.
2 Number states and observables in the second quantized formalism
3 Bosons: Bose-Einstein condensation. Bogoliubov transformation. Quantization of the electromagnetic field and light-matter interaction
4 Fermions: Hartree-Fock model. A glimpse on interacting many-electron systems in solids



Prerequisites

Quantum mechanical formalism, quantum harmonic oscillator, angular momentum operators, perturbation theory
