Summary

Connected devices are now pervasive in daily life, and are increasingly penetrating the industrial field. Proficiency in the technologies enabling the IoT (Internet of Things) enables to participate in the digital transition of businesses and to design new solutions in all domains of activity: transportation, agriculture, environment, health, education…

Automatic control systems are said to be “embedded”. They include the software and hardware and are subject to stringent constraints in terms of optimization, energy consumption, and interactions with their environment (real time problematics safety as well as security). They are often connected and rely on a network infrastructure using reliable, efficient, safe and secured communication protocols. They are associated with extensive system for management and data processing.

SEOC students can choose their preferred disciplines in this ever-expanding field at the crossroad of networking, mobile applications, systems on chip and real time & embedded computing.

Objectives

The master program offers advanced courses on the design flow of hardware and software systems; it includes modeling and implementation languages, development methods, usual solutions, and validation methods for embedded systems. It also includes an introduction to control theory and control engineering, needed for the understanding of the interactions between an embedded system and its environment.

Admission

  • Who should apply? Bac + 2, Bac + 3, Bac + 4
  • Available as :
    • Initial education
    • Continuing education

Entry requirements

To be admitted into Year 1 (at two years of post-secondary study), students must have completed two years of preparatory courses (science-track or Institute of Technology common preparatory program) or have earned an undergraduate degree from a university (in France, mainly DUT or L2).

Admission into Year 2 is also open to foreign candidates holding a bachelor's degree, as regular students for the two-year curriculum. It leads to the French degree diplôme d'ingénieur Grenoble INP-Phelma (Master of Science and Engineering).
It is also open to exchange and double-degree students coming from Phelma's partner universities.

Program

The first year

Year 1 common core curriculum, providing a bachelor degree in Engineering Science.

The second year

The third year

> MANINTEC Management, Innovation, Technologies

Semester 10

The second semester of the final year of studies is dedicated to the Graduation Project and associated internship (30 ECTS credits) which can be performed either in a research laboratory or in industry.

Through this final project, the student, as a full-time member of a working team, is able to synthesize the knowledge he or she has acquired and put it into practice in a professional context. The student is involved in a full-scale project. The results are presented in a project report to a committee made up of professionals and Phelma Faculty members.

Board of examiners

Each semester is worth 30 ECTS credits, spread out over the different courses completed. Students must obtain a grade of at least 10/20 in each course to obtain the credits.

International

  • Language of instruction
Mainly French, occasionally with slides in English. A few courses may be offered in English. French language competence is required.
  • Internship abroad Yes
  • Erasmus areas Electronics and telecommunications engineering

International exchange

Students in this major benefit from many agreements between Grenoble Institute of Technology and partners around the globe in the form of exchange programs, dual-degree programs, internships, and more.
