Goal(s)
Acquire knowledge about auditory perception
Contact Maeva GARNIER, Julien DIARD, Alan CHAUVIN, Marion DOHENContent(s)
The course begins with an introduction to the interests and challenges of the study of perception, and the various scientific trends and positions that have been developed on these issues.
It then continues with a study of the physiology and functioning of the auditory system. We then discuss the mechanisms of perception of pitch, intensity, and timbre of sounds, based on both low-level (bottom-up) mechanisms and high-level (top-down) mechanisms (memory, knowledge, attention, etc.).
Finally, we conclude by addressing the mechanisms of pattern or sound source recognition, the fusion/segregation of auditory streams, or the distinction of a pattern against a background, as well as the mechanisms of linking/integrating different sensory information.
