DALETh : Qu'est-ce que c'est ? >> « what is it ? »

DALETh stands for «data analysis: linking experiments and theory». It consists in studies (in french: «parcours») at the level of a first year of master studies (M1). It teaches students scientific methodology : to design their experiments, collect and process their data, and use them to test an experimental hypothesis.
A specificity of DALETh relies on the fact that it is integrated into three different master programs as an M1 course of studies. Thanks to a joint effort, the three masters Nanomedicine and structural biology, Science cognitives, and Traitement du signal et des images offer this program to their students at the level of M1. The program offers a transition to the second year of Master (M2) of each of the different master programs involved with the help of a master-specific course module.

The DALETh program offers courses that range from Initiation to experimental design and research over to Signals and systems and Computational statistics and statistical learning, in so covering the whole chain of experimental sciences. Courses offer theoretical bases as well as lab sessions and ask for a non-negligible amount of autonomy from the students. The different course topics are put into practice during a one-day-a-week individual lab project running in parallel with the classes throughout the academic year, and a team-based data challenge at the end of the year.

And—in case you haven't noticed—all courses are taught in English. Apart from welcoming international students and preparing students to integrate English-spoken international research communities, this makes it also easy to integrate non-French speaking Erasmus students in the fields of scientific computing, signal and image processing, and experimental design at the level of Master1.
