Objectif(s)
Main Objectives : the main objective to this course is present the main GENIV concept and the materials challenges in terms of selection and durability.
Intended learning outcomes :
• List all the GEN IV concept
• List the main material selection criteria for 3 GEN IV concept
• List the main materials challenges
Contenu(s)
Content of your course:
This course is devoted to GEN IV systems and is based on a recent book that reviews all the systems and the materials challenges. It is given by an expert in the field, P. Yvon from CEA who is the editor of this book. The main questions addressed are :
• Why Gen IV systems ?
• Gen IV systems (SFR, GFR, VHTR)
• Materials Selection in SFR, GFR, VHTR (core and structural materials , requirements and properties)
• Tools (installations, modelling and standards)
The students are asked to make an interactive presentation on one of the 3 chapters of the book ( Irradiation effects in Generation IV nuclear reactor materials, Irradiation-resistant austenitic steels as core materials for Generation IV nuclear reactors, Advanced irradiation-resistant material for Generation IV nuclear reactors). They have to highlight the materials challenges.
